The Florence Nightingale Workbook is a resource book for parents teachers and children wanting to teach and learn about Florence Nightingale. The themed activities in this book are cross-curricular and make learning about Florence Nightingale fun. The new history curriculum requires children to learn about historical events, people and places and the lives of significant individuals in the past who have contributed to national and international achievements, Florence Nightingale being one of them. There are a wide variety of activities in this workbook including activities to be used in literacy lessons, such as a comprehension exercise , poetry, story writing, writing a newspaper report and letter writing. There are also activities to help with the mathematics curriculum, involving statistics; Florence Nightingale was a statistician, and invented the pie chart, inside are activities for interpreting pie charts, a bar chart and making their own bar chart. There are also measuring activities including reading thermometer readings and measuring capacity. Florence Nightingale is an excellent choice when teaching the history curriculum and the lives of significant individuals in the past who have contributed to national and international achievements. Florence Nightingale changed the way hospitals were run across the world, patients today are benefitting from her work. Other history activities include ordering a timeline, a sorting activity in comparing hospitals today and with the past. There are many design and technology activities including, designing a nurse's uniform, making a nurse's lantern and a Florence Nightingale Statue. There are also science activities including labelling a skeleton, and making a skeleton, all with the aim of making learning fun.
